Vacuum Casting Polyurethane Production Details

Step 1: Making vacuum casting master patterns, preparation for making silicone molds. These masters will be produced by CNC Precision Machining or SLA Printing with Primer Painting. Whatever they are made from, their appearance surface must be very smooth and tolerance controlled well then the parts from silicone mold can be satisfied.



Step 2: Making Silicone Mold, 2 types of silicone molds including white and transparent. Transparent silicone mold is especially for duplicating transparent acrylic parts which have appearance model requirements. Also there are 2 types of transparent polyurethane resin considering different properties PU similarity PMMA and PU similarity PC, the difference between them is transparency and strength. PU PMMA has better transparency usually used for appearance model when PU PC has better strength usually for functional model.



Step 3: Casting parts by silicone mold. Using types of polyurethane resin to duplicate parts with great surface detail and fidelity. Molds are durable for 20 or more copies. In this way for low volume projects budgets can be reduced a lot compared to CNC prototype or SLA prototype. Surface finish is usually done for all duplicated parts including painting, plating, printing, sometimes, can textured directly from vacuum casting silicone molds. The most challengeable skill is over molding in polyurethane vacuum casting. We need to over mold PU similarity Rubber material to CNC prototype plastic parts or CNC metal parts or PU similarity plastic parts onto CNC sheet metal parts.
