Paint Coating Technology of rapid prototype services—paint(3)
As we know that 1K paint is different from 2K paint in ingredients . These are some hidden traps in painting process which will have bad impact on the final effect of the prototype models. What happens when 2K paints are applied over 1K paints before the 1K paints are 100% dry? When the 1K paints are not 100% and the 2K paints are applied over it, then the moisture in the 1K paints is trapped inside the 2K paints, which makes the moisture has to struggle to come out of it but finally fail and cause the bubble or irregular surface on 2K top coat. In rapid prototype services, rapid means the fastest, a lot of rapid prototype companies had been trapped when pursue the speed putting the products into the oven for fast dry. What will happen when 2K top coat are force cured in an oven at a temperature that is too high? The bad effect is that the top coat turns yellow a bit compare to the natural temperature dry which will become the dissatisfactory of the clients because the products are not as bright as they suppose to be. It is a trap that tally well paint will change , for example, the client wants a blue paint product, what the painter paint is 100% dovetail with the color sample the client provided. But what happens to the base coat color when a 2K top coat is applied? Top coat are those transparent paint that may not 100% transparent, most of them have a very light transparent yellow. What happen when light yellow applied over the blue? Of course the blue will become a little bit green compare to the first color sample. What have to be done in order to avoid this mistake happen is to add some red in the 100% dovetail. What happens to the base coat color when different type of 2K top coat applied? For different ingredients have different chemical property, different types of 2K top coat will have chemical reaction when mix together. Painters always have to beware about such trap. To sum up, paint coating technologies and processes are very important for rapid prototype model manufacturing.

Paint coating is an important technology in rapid prototype services. It is the visual effect to people eyes and one can tell the difference when compare with the Pantone NO. they provide. Paint is an advanced technological production process in rapid prototype services. There 3 layers that make a painting coating. Do you know the industry name of each layer? Not only work in rapid prototype company but also those whose works have any connection with prototype models should know clear about this. Layer 1, it is the primer coating that could be the basic of the whole painting processing. Its function- purpose is to make the product surface more consistent and smooth so that the final part could be prettier. It also divides the color and the surface which might cause the color difference. Layer 2, it is the basic coating or color coating, it is the basic color of the visual product, the function of this coating is of course to show the color. Till here, color could still be change, because the color is easy to be sanding off. Layer 3, the top coating who might be protected coating of the whole paint coating to prevent the paint from scratching off. The top coating is hard and not easy to be off, so it is very important to have the whole processes right. Because once the top coat is painted, it could hardly be renewed. To sum up, paint coating is some kind of technologies and the kind of knowledge that the prototype relevancies should know about.

Is painting an advanced technological production process of rapid prototype services ? The answer should be yes. For the final prototype finishing of the version part, painting is the most important process besides the tolerance. Viewing from components, there are two kinds of paints exist, 1K and 2K. Here K is short for components, as most of us know that component is a borrowed word from Germen whose original is “Komponents”. What is the difference between 1K paints and 2K paints is that 1K paints contain only one component while 2K paints contain two. Component of 1K paints is resin, it is the so called component A, and 2K paints has component A and component B, while A means resin and B means hardener. That’s why 2K paints dry faster than 1K paints. And furthermore, they need different spray approaches. Viewing from basics, chemically there are 3 kinds of paints, the water basic paints, the solvent basic paints and the oil basic paints. Paints are very thick (almost close to solid) at the first place, for different purpose, paints are containing in the container as liquid, which needs the basic to thin them. That’s why there exist 3 basics, water, solvent and oil. AS paints, there are 4 most popular leading global brands of paints that most clients would recognize. PPG, DuPont, Basf and Aekson. Rapid prototype services is the pre-production of mass productions. So the version is very important for those testing rapid prototyping models. Rapid prototype post production
As we all know that rapid prototype is a kind of service to verify product feasibility. A lot of clients will first think of all kinds of process when mention about using rapid molding processes to have their trial products made. However, post production is as important as all the rapid processes do. Post production is the last step of the whole process, so it is also named finishing . Post production include: polishing, Vapor polishing Glass Bead-blasting, UV painting, Silk Screening, Laser Etching, Anodizing, Plating, Power Coating . For most of the prototype parts manufacturing, post production is very important especially for the visual parts. Surface treatment of the prototype needs to be perfectly done is one requirement of some clients, which means glossy, colored, and textured surface. Each kind of effects requires a series of treatment. For example, when first get the part off the machine, what needs to be done is deburring , it would improve the surface appearance. When the clients require machine finish, then these products could be right packaged and delivered. But if clients require painting, the parts need to be polished first to get to the smooth surface from the rough surface. After manual polishing, the surface become smooth and flat which is one of the necessary conditions before painting the basic coat, the basic coats are usually those name 1K primer or 2K primer , when use 1K primer, it takes time for nature dry, because 1K primer needs to be painted thick, and 2K primer takes less time for drying than 1K do, because of the thickness. Both of the primer choices could not put into the oven for speeding up drying because oven drying will cause the color difference which will do harm for the color match what will be mention as the second coat. Yes, the second coat is the so called color coat which needs to match the color what the clients required. And then the third coat which could be the UV gloss oil, the function of this coat is to protect the color coat from scratch off or get marked .

3D printing, the third industrial revolution
3D printing technology makes it possible to bring design into reality by only pressing the “print” button. The third industrial revolution lead by it will transform mass production into personalized production, which will change the manufacture process, would have the multinational industry chain broken through. Possibility of industrial revolution According to the history, the first industrial revolution happened in London, Britain had replaced manual labor by using machines that had formed the modern sense plant; the second industrial revolution which happened in Seattle American had make mass production possible thanks to the production flow line created by Ford; and the third industrial revolution might happen in South Carolina, and the historical mission would come back into solo product processing under the influence of digitalization which is to reduce the customized production cost. Headquarter of 3D Systems Company was founded by Chuck Hull locate in the foothills of Rocky of South Carolina. From the outside appearance, it was merely a not-so-high block that no one would consider as the would-be birthplace of the third industrial revolution. But there was another scene inside the plant. Surround by dozens of machines, two workers were attentively working, they sat inside the control room and did the only work they have to, which was no more than tapping at the computers. Machines in the room were nothing else than 3D printers. To our surprise, the printers did not print paper but all kinds of objects, some of which were as big as a car and some were the same size as the microwave oven, some were printing jewelries and some were printing artificial limbs or auto parts. 20% of them would be used as samples and others would be the final products. Chuck Hull, a genial 73 year-old selinahan , has owned more than 60 patents now, one of the patens named “3D plate printing” has laid the foundation of 3D printing technology . The theory of this process is very simple; the UV repeats to speed up the solidification of the thin liquid plastic layers layer by layer, and finally form the 3D object. Due to the sprayer could be control by the computer, once the design scale is ready on the computer, the expected shape could be formed. Currently, a lot of consumption goods, machine elements and architect model could apply 3D printing to make samples for engineers, designers or clients to estimate the product effect. Any changes could be achieved in few hours which are shorter than weeks of manufacture cycle before. Some designer have already used plastic and nylon to print shoes and cloth to wear. Except real leather, any manmade material related to cloth could be printed.
