FAQ

FAQ

  • Q Do I need professional CAD design for CNC machining?

    A Yes, typically a CAD design is needed to create a 3D model of the part and generate the necessary program for CNC machining. This ensures the accuracy of part dimensions and geometries.
  • Q What's the difference between CNC machining and 3D printing?

    A CNC machining involves removing material from a solid to create parts, while 3D printing builds parts by adding material layer by layer. CNC machining is often suitable for high precision and strength, while 3D printing is useful for complex geometries and rapid prototyping.
  • Q What are the cost factors in CNC machining?

    A The cost of CNC machining is influenced by factors such as material costs, process complexity, part size, quantity, and required machining time.
  • Q How do I choose the right surface finish?

    A The choice of surface finish depends on the part's purpose and requirements. Common surface finishes include grinding, painting, anodizing, plating, offering different aesthetics, corrosion resistance, and friction properties.
  • Q What is CNC milling and CNC turning?

    A CNC milling involves cutting and carving on a workpiece by rotating the cutting tool. CNC turning involves cutting on a workpiece by rotating the workpiece itself. These methods are used to create parts of various shapes.
  • Q How is the accuracy of CNC parts ensured?

    A The accuracy of CNC parts is ensured through pre-programmed instructions and precise machine control systems. Additionally, strict quality control and inspection processes play a crucial role in ensuring part accuracy.
  • Q What is CNC programming?

    A CNC programming is the process of creating a sequence of instructions needed for CNC machine tool operations. These instructions dictate how the machine tool moves and when to perform cutting, drilling, and other operations.
  • Q What are the common CNC machining materials?

    A Common CNC machining materials include metals (such as aluminum, steel, stainless steel, copper), plastics (such as ABS, polyurethane, nylon), and various engineering materials (such as cast iron, titanium alloys, brass).
  • Q What are the advantages of CNC machining?

    A CNC machining offers advantages such as high precision, good repeatability, suitability for complex geometries, and automation. It enhances production efficiency, reduces human errors, and achieves more accurate part manufacturing.
  • Q What is CNC machining?

    A CNC machining (Computer Numerical Control) is an automated manufacturing process that uses pre-programmed computer instructions to control machine tools for cutting, carving, drilling, and other operations to create parts and products.

1.Could KAIAO make design drawings for me?

We do not provide design services. You are responsible for submitting 2D and 3D drawings, and we can then arrange the quotation according to your design files.

2.What type of files does KAIAO accept for quoting?

We accept 3D CAD files in STL, STEP or IGES format to provide quotation,. 2D drawings with reference dimensions should be in PDF format.

3.How long does a quotation take?

In most cases, we respond within 3 days of receiving an RFQ. If the quote is delayed, we will inform you as soon as possible.

4.How do I know my design will be kept confidential?

We will sign and adhere to any non-disclosure or confidentiality agreement. We have the strict policy within our factory that no photographs are ever allowed of a customer’s product without express permission.

5.How does KAIAO compare to other suppliers on price?

Although direct comparisons are difficult, KAIAO’s prices will be typically 25-45% less when compared to suppliers in North America and Europe.

As compared to Chinese suppliers, we choose to not to compete on price but to offer the higher levels of quality, rapid response and professional results.

6.Are lead times in working days or calendar days?

Lead times are quoted in calendar days.

7.What tolerances can KAIAO achieve?

Here are some general tolerance guidelines:

SLA: ±0.15/100mm precision;

CNC: ±0.15/100mm precision;

VACUUM CASTING: ±0.2/100mm precision;

RIM: ±0.2/100mm precision.

It’s helpful if you can specify in the 2D drawings which areas in your design have critical tolerances that must be met and which can be slightly modified if needed to reduce time and costs involved.

8.What type of surface finishes does KAIAO provide?

We offer a full range of finishing services, from polishing to painting, plating to anodizing and printing to coating.

9.What are KAIAO’s shipping terms?

Our standard terms are Ex Works (EXW). This means the customer is responsible for shipping, customs clearance and all other associated fees once the goods have left our premises.
