Reaction Injection Molding (RIM) is a flexible manufacturing process used to produce high-quality plastic components by mixing and injecting two or more liquid reactive materials—typically polyol and isocyanate—into a closed mold cavity. Compared with traditional injection molding, RIM operates at low pressure and relatively low temperatures, reducing tooling stress and enabling more cost-efficient mold design.
During the process, the mixed materials undergo an exothermic chemical reaction and cure directly inside the mold to form the final part. This manufacturing method offers excellent design freedom, allowing engineers and OEM manufacturers to produce large, lightweight parts with varying wall thicknesses, integrated features, and complex geometries, making RIM well-suited for low- to medium-volume production and industrial applications.
● Exceptional Design Freedom: Our RIM process allows for unparalleled design flexibility, enabling the creation of single-part products with intricate features such as ribs, bosses, curves, and undercuts. We can seamlessly integrate mixed large and small wall thicknesses (from 3mm to 60mm) within the same part without sink marks or distortion, offering more possibilities than many other manufacturing methods.
● Cost-Efficiency for Low to Medium Volume Production: RIM with Kaiao-RPRT is particularly economical for low to medium annual volumes (typically from a few hundred to 20,000 parts per year). This efficiency stems from the use of cost-effective polymer materials and the ability to utilize lower-cost tooling like aluminum molds instead of expensive steel, significantly reducing upfront investment.
● Rapid Production & Turnaround: We emphasize high efficiency and short cycles, with typical cycle times ranging from 30-60 seconds per part. Our in-house mold design and making services can be completed within two weeks, ensuring fast global deliveries and helping you bring your products to market quicker.
● Superior Part Properties: Kaiao-RPRT's RIM parts exhibit excellent strength-to-weight ratios, dimensional stability, chemical resistance, physical toughness, and wear resistance. Our parts boast long functional life expectancies and can achieve high mechanical strength due to the crosslinking in their polymer structures.
● High-Quality Surface Finishes: RIM parts from Kaiao-RPRT come out of the mold with superior cosmetic finishes, often achieving Class A surfaces directly. They are also ready for various post-processing options including coating, painting, and texturing.
● Large Part Capability: Our expertise allows us to produce very large RIM parts, including large covers with simple or complex structures, with casting sizes up to 2000mm X 1200mm X 1000mm, while maintaining high rigidity and strength even with thin walls (3 to 6 mm).
● Integrated Solutions: From professional low-cost mold design and mold making (using materials like ABS, Epoxy, and Aluminum) to production molding and post-processing, Kaiao-RPRT provides integrated solutions under one roof, ensuring superior quality control and project management.
