A quote bundles setup, machine time, material, finishing and shipping. One shop may quote raw machining and another may include inspection and packaging - so the headline number hides the real difference. Always read what is inside the price, not just the total. Suppose a 200-part run. CNC plastic at $80/part = $16,000. The same part in an aluminum injection mold: $2,000 tooling + $6/part x 200 = $12,200 - already cheaper at 200, and the gap widens fast. 6. Building an RFQ That Gets an Accurate Quote

Send a complete package so suppliers price the same thing:

1. CAD model in STEP/IGES plus 2D drawings for critical dimensions.

2. Material and any certification needs (RoHS/REACH, mill cert).

3. Quantity and target lead time.

4. Finish and any inserts or assembly.

5. Ship-to address for freight accuracy.

6. Whether tooling should be itemized separately.
